Prasana Practices : Creative Approaches to Vinyasa Yoga
Prasana has two meanings: The “fulfilment” of asana, (pra + asana) and “to throw” (prasana). In this workshop we’ll explore how movement “fulfills” and extends asana through an the science of transitions (the “throw”) in flow yoga.
1) We’ll learn movement principles, like how to imitate a snake or a wave. We will find “stambha”—energetic grounding—and create “ekagrata” –moving one-pointedness. We will study vinyasa’s science and poetry, and gain techniques to surrender to and control yoga flow.
2) Students will be given tools to discover new vinyasas and asanas. Yoga teaches creation, containment, and expression of life energy in the body. Certain principles achieve this. We will provide laboratories for utilizing this energy to generate new yoga forms out of our already-known pose vocabularies.
