Woman Yogi Light GreenYoga: The Art of Transformation, An Exhibit at the Asian Art Museum:  Understanding the History behind the Artifacts

Yoga’s history includes 5000 years of saints, warriors, and sage-like kings. It embraces Tantra, mantra, and God. Along with modern yogis, dancers, doctors, movie stars and bodybuilders helped to popularize it in the last 100 years. Now yoga captivates people everywhere.

The Asian Art Museum’s new show, Yoga: The Art of Transformation offers a dizzying array of images to help understand this history of yoga. But, what do each of these images tell us?

This talk will explain the pieces in the show and what they tell us. It will put the pictures, sculptures and movies in their historical, philosophical and cultural context, deepening our understanding of Indian art and yoga’s long evolution.

Join us for a lively trip through time. Learn more about yoga and its art -past and present.
