The Upanishads: 9 Tuesdays For the Depths of the Yoga Tradition
The origins of today’s yoga are found in the Upanishads, the first books to tell us about the practice. Scholars generally count more than 11 yogic scriptures as “Upanishads”—and some are nearly 3000 years old. In them, we learn–among other things–how to sit straight, direct our minds, and guide our breath.
In their wisdom, we see our world with its well-known needs. The books teach us to balance goals and desires, life and sex, death and God. In these discussions, we walk with ancient wisefolk and learn to appreciate life’s waves of disappointment and joy.
We’ll look at a range of their core teachings as well as the bigger neighborhood of practices, lifestyles, and inspired teachings that shaped the Upanishads’ timeless wisdom.
