From Swamis to Celebrities: Yoga’s Long California Pedigree, A Presentation at the Asian Art Museum

This presentation for the Asian Art Museum’s exhibit, Yoga: The Art of Transformation, will take place March 6th, beginning at 6pm at the Museum.

Ten presenters will present Pecha Kucha presentations–20 slides talked about for 20 seconds each–and there will be discussion and a DJ for dancing later that evening. 

All the presentations will be on the theme of Yoga in California.

Utilizing special exhibition Yoga: The Art of Transformation as a point of departure, this evening event will focus on California’s unique role in the adoption, evolution, and popularization of yoga today. There will be AcroYoga performances, demonstrations, and participatory workshops organized by Jenny Sauer-Klein. The centerpiece will be BAAT CHEET: a feast of talks about yoga’s influence on our everyday lives. DJ Janaka Selekta plays.

Ten Bay Area presenters will give short and dynamic talks.

They are:

Homeopathic physician Dr. Sachin Deshmukh;

Educator and leader in the field of mindfulness in education Meena Srinivasan;

Artist, Ann Dyer;

Chief Social Evangelist, Google Social for Brands Gopi Kallayil;

Founder and executive director of Healing Yoga Foundation (HYF) Kate Holocombe;

Asian Art Museum curator Qamar Adamjee;

Artist and graphic designer Chiraag Bhakta;

Ayurvedic chef Nalini Mehta;

Activist, artist, and filmmaker John Parulis;

and Yoga Historian Eric Shaw.
